Snapper Slapper Tourney Huge Success
This Past Weekend...See Pics here!
Fishing Reports Boats:
Report :
John Gleason reported the Snapper
Slapper III this
past Saturday was a huge success with food and BBQ provided by
the Island Smokehouse of Island Park. Make sure you visit the Derby page
in this site to se some great pics of the event. On the water a couple
of keeper fluke were reported caught in the back bays of Baldwin, East
Rockaway, Woodmere and Cedarhurst the last few days, The water temps
probably dropped a little bit with that rain. The main place and best
bet still remains on the edges of the local reefs, south of the JI Buoy
and out to 70 feet of water. Bluefish are still a key player as they can
be found near and far. A few stripers were actually taken just off the
Silver Point Jetty and behind the clam boats during daylight.
The bulk of the activity still remains a night bite
though, hit all the usual haunts with bellies and chunks. Jimmy D. broke out
the fly rod and nailed a bunch of schoolies in and around the Swift Creek
Island. His choice were white deceivers and sand eel colored clousers.
Blue claws are becoming more active...finally as the
Bay Park docks are yielding some nice size crabs. It has not been a banner
year for crabs but at least now you can bring home a few to throw in the
pot. Snapper season is in full swing now from all the area docks with
spearing and live small killie out fishing tins right now. The never fail
snapper popper will always produce as friend Johnny Pipes can attest as he
took a couple of my poppers up to Manhassset Bay last night and drilled a
bunch of snappers with his son and also released six pre-schoolie bass,
these were really small fish folks but lots of fun on snapper outfits. The
